The Irish whiskey in this drink makes it somewhat of an enhanced Manhattan. This cocktail uses gin in combination with whiskey and sweet vermouth so it’s more like a Manhattan martini hybrid in the beginning. The addition of Green Chartreuse and Campari gives the Massey cocktail a sweetened herbal bitterness that makes it all the more intriguing.
It was the idea of Portland bartender Jacob Grier and his Irish grandmother that inspired the Massey cocktail. You might not think Irish whiskey would combine well with a cocktail, but this one pushes all your perceptions to the limit. Unique and a fine example of modern mixology in its finest form, this one is sure to be appreciated by every connoisseur of fine drinks.
The Tempus Fugit Gran Classico is a Swiss-made bitter based on a 19th-century Italian recipe called “Bitter of Turin.” It is made with natural ingredients and has a similar flavor. In order to obtain the effects of Campari, an appetizer was developed. The red color of the product is achieved using natural ingredients, such as cochineal. As a vegan aperitif, Campari originally contained this insect dye, but this was replaced with artificial colors in 2006 by addition of artificial colorings.
