Hunter’s Cocktail Recipe

This cocktail does not have a known origin, but its popularity was greatly enhanced by bartender Hidetsugu Ueno’s recommendation of it at his bar High Five in Ginzo, Tokyo, Japan. An easy to drink whiskey and cherry brandy cocktail, the hunter’s cocktail is the perfect cocktail for the outdoors. This is a perfect companion for the hunting season, which usually takes place in the autumn.

During this chilly weather, you’ll want to sip on something that warms you up from the inside out and this will definitely do the trick. These lowball drinks were designed with hunters in mind. This easy-to-make beverage mixes up in just two minutes using just two ingredients and is great after a long day in the woods.

  • For this cocktail, Bourbon is typically selected as the whiskey of choice. It’s possible to have almost any type of whiskey, though. If you are going to use maraschinos, then use real cherry maraschinos (e.g. Luxardo) or cocktail cherries for the best results.
  • The maraschino cherries can also be made at home by soaking the fresh cherries in maraschino liqueur. The great thing about homemade treats is that they’re so easy to make.
  • For a more frothy cocktail, shake this cocktail with ice in a cocktail shaker, then strain it. There is no need to add ice to this beverage because it will be perfectly chilled.
